Mom's New drop-spindles.

Monday, April 25, 2011

Today we started field work.

We have over 150 acres of ground to prepare this year.
Deciding to plow up some of our hay and grow; oats, soy beans, and more corn.
Dad hopes to not bale any hay this year, putting all our hay acreage toward haylage.

Abby disked 26 acres of corn stalks today, and plans to disk 28 more tomorrow. Most of the fields are too wet to do much as of yet. We won't disk all our corn, we shall chop 30 acres of stalks for bedding.

I will try to give you more information and pictures later.

What's been happening and 'Top Dress'

Well deer Season ended, leaving us with 7 dead deer between Jake and Abby.
(We did get our corn off the day before and the first day of deer season)

Some new developments in our household, Jake moved out of our basement the first of December, then two days before Christmas Mr & Mrs. Rick Stelling moved into it, they are also expecting in September. :)

Christmas came and went, Bringing in the New year along with a missions trip to Mexico the 21st trough the 30th, for Dad and Abby. For a week the two of them were staying at a missionary's house working on maintenance in their home.(Pictures from that to come later)

It's hard to believe February is already here!

Here is what we call 'Top Dress',

It is roasted soy beans, beef pulp and Distillers (which is the byproduct of ethanol).

This is 'Pre-Heat' (We get it from T.E.N. (Timed Event Nutrition) an all natural mineral product)
it helps the cows come into heat more naturally

The Number in the upper right hand corner is for 'Fat' (Which is really dehydrated palm oil)
The star (if their is one) means give scoop of 'Pre-Heat'.
and The number in the lower left-hand corner is for 'Top dress' and how many scoops you give.

As you can see the Cows LOVE it! It's (for them) like having dessert after a meal.

Wow,

We have had one of those years!!!!!

You know the "nothing has gone right" feeling, after you have 3 breakdown within the first hour of work!

We were doing our neighbors rye and the first day we had 3 brake downs, the first chopper box we filled had a REALLY low tire, then (we found out later) when we unloaded it the bearing went out, and then we had to put it aside so we were one less wagon!

Then my mom was chopping along and the PTO Blew up!!

That was all the brake-downs for Brians rye.

Well that about says it!!! we have been so busy with life and everything that we have not blogged!

We are slowing down, but there are still lots of thing happening this next month.

first we are combining our soy beans sometime this next week, second we have three birthdays coming up. Jake the 12th, Emma the 20th, and Caitlin the 28th. then the pin in my arm with be coming out soon too. then we have all the work of getting ready for winter, although we have already canned, green beans, peaches, some apple sauce, and LOTS of tomatoes! we have pressed some apples into cider as well. And sometime we will be combining our corn.

First Crop!

We cut first crop last night!

He's laying the rows wide so it will dry faster.
Which means we will have to rake it all but, raking is fun! :)
A good tall Crop! :)
We will be chopping all 100 acres of first crop. :)
